EVAW’s response to the Online Harms Consultation

Today (26.06.19) the EVAW Coalition are sharing our response to Government’s Online Harms White Paper Consultation (Deadline Monday 1st July 2019) which sets out proposals for online regulations. Our response is available here: Online Harms EVAW Response

The EVAW Coalition believes that new law and policy being considered by the Government, in close ‘negotiation’ with the big tech giants, is a critical area where abuse of women and girls is very real, is increasing and needs specific naming and commitments. Any proposals in this area need to focus on changing the behaviour and attitudes of those who perpetrate online harms and the systems that enable them, rather than telling individuals how to ‘stay safe’ online. In it we set out the need for online Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) to be recognised as a harm in its own right.
