It’s not like we didn’t have a lot of choice;
- Of course convicted sexual predator Brock Turner’s Dad was on the list for dismissing rape as ‘20 minutes of action’
- Roosh V would have been such an easy choice…you know, for stuff like this. Bluugghh.
- We could have gone for John Inverdale for his ‘mistake’ of ignoring the fact that Venus and Serena Williams have won more Olympic golds in tennis than any man (including Andy Murry, who pointed out the mistake). In fact, the Rio Olympics brought us a bumper stash of sexist tropes.
- Phillip Davies MP has certainly been a contender this year along with that judge in Manchester who blamed a rape victim for being drunk.
But, voted for overwhelmingly by the good women on our social media feeds (as well as a large minority of the American electorate) is the uber-sexist of 2016, Donald Trump.
There isn’t room here, or indeed on entire world wide web, to detail Trump’s many qualifications for this accolade. But the man who bragged about sexually assaulting women has dismissed women as fat, nasty, ugly, stupid, sexy, old and…menstruating. There isn’t a woman, or biological function, off limits for this master of sexism. He actually believes winners of beauty pageants have an ‘obligation to stay perfect’ and dismissed Venezuelan Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado as ‘Miss Piggy’ and ‘Housekeeping’, beautifully combining racism with his sexism. The Telegraph have catalogued his outrageous views and comments – the list is long but not exhaustive. He really is the overlord of sexism.
So, as we wave goodbye to 2016 and say hello to 2017, we do so knowing that the man who thinks ‘unattractive’ women aren’t at risk of sexual assault, that his own daughter can be considered ‘a piece of ass’ and that 10-year-old girls are fair game for a letch, is going to be the most powerful man in the world.
But, you know…happy holidays…
